Martin Buckley is a print and broadcast journalist. He began his career in journalism in India after university, working for Business India Magazine. He has spent a number of years in the country, which was the subject of his last book, Indian Odyssey.
Martin spent a year on a local newspaper in London, then a decade at the BBC as TV and radio reporter, director and producer. His freelance TV work includes presenting a number of documentaries for Travel Channel and Discovery Channel. He has reported for the From Our Own Correspondent strand of BBC Radio 4/World Service since 1998.

In 2017, Martin started work on a TV documentary about Palestine, From Balfour to Banksy. Aiming to show how the legacy of British imperialism led to the current shocking state of the Palestinian people, this feature-length film has now been seen in cinemas, at universities and at festivals around the world. It was released on YouTube in spring 2020.

In radio, Martin created documentaries praised for their originality, including Robert Fisk on Political Islam (R3 45-min), recorded in Beirut & Egypt; Mark Tulley on Tantra (R4 40-min), recorded in India; a biography of Aldous Huxley (R4 40-min self-presented), recorded in the US; The Enemy Within, a history of illegal drug use in UK; The Global Zoo, 2-hour environment special recorded in Africa and India presented by George Monbiot; a documentary about the hashisheen, the original assassins, recorded in Iran – etc. He has worked in Europe, the Middle East, Asia, Africa, North and South America, the Pacific region etc.
In print, Martin's work has been published in a wide range of newspapers and magazines, including the Independent, The Observer, The Times, The Daily Telegraph, The New Statesman, the Times Higher Educational Supplement, BBC News Magazine, Condé Nast Traveller, Wanderlust, Food & Travel, etc. etc. He has been a columnist in the Observer, The Daily Telegraph and elsewhere.
